| VideOpinions Hitch Five Stars by Brad Brevet, ropeofsilicon.com The comedy of the year so far is undoubtedly Hitch, and I knew it the minute the credits began to roll. This film has perfect comedic timing, the beautiful Eva Mendes and the charismatic Will Smith, how can you go wrong?
Hitch's latest client Albert Brennaman (Kevin James) is now dating the high profile society heiress Allegra Cole, an angle Meles is undoubtedly going to want to cover in her gossip rag. The fact that James doesn't fit the stereotype of a man who would be dating someone of Cole's stature triggers Meles' dirt digging sensors and her research soon leads her to the once thought rumored "date doctor" and a whole new can of worms is opened. Hitch has all the makings of a classic romantic comedy and with Smith, Mendes and James here to play the leads it is non-stop comedy, and no surprise it pulled in just under $180 million at the box-office. As for the special features, they are surprisingly limited down to a few deleted scenes, a blooper reel, a music video by Amerie and a group of five featurettes focusing on the location shoot in New York, the style of the costume design, Kevin James' dance moves, the research behind the dating details of the film and a look in at Will Smith as he attempts to break a Guinness World Record for most public appearances by a celebrity in one day. Yeah, that last one is not exactly interesting. For the most part this is a DVD you aren't buying for the special features, especially considering the blooper reel isn't funny, the featurettes are pretty much a waste of time and the deleted scenes aren't even worth the look, but the movie itself is a different story. Hitch is a movie you can pop in the DVD player at any time and watch the whole way through every time. I highly recommend you add this one to your collection if romantic comedies with an emphasis on the comedy are your thing. Visit the official Hitch DVD website. |
