The Devil's Rejects
Zero Stars

The Family is at it again. Father, Captain Spaulding (Sid Haig); Mother Firefly (Leslie Easterbrook) and children: Otis (Bill Mosely), Baby (Sheri Moon Zombie) and Tiny (Matthew McGrorey) are still killing people, and killing them in the most grotesque ways possible.

But the police are on to them and surround the house. Otis, Baby and Captain Spaulding escape and are on the run and thus take their love of killing on the road. Hot on their trail is Sheriff Wydell (William Forsythe). The Sheriff has declared that this family consists of "the devil's rejects" and it is his duty to cleanse the wicked and wipe them off the face of the earth. But the family isn't going down without a fight. They take a group of people hostage for the sole purpose of tormenting them. When they are done with them, they move on. Can the Sheriff catch them before they torment and/or kill more people?

I'll bottom line it for you; this flick is about five crazy white folks who have killed over 75 people and now three of them are on the run and killing more white folks. They've got one friend who is helping them out, but not killing anyone and he is a crazy black man who is also a pimp. That's just about it. Pretty damn sad. I found no real joy in this movie. For one, I'm a person who needs answers. Showing me that they are depraved "humans," but not giving me any insight as to why, drives me insane.

I can understand one of them being nuts ala The Bad Seed, but for all to not only be crazy, but murderous crazies is just too much for me. Okay that's not quite the truth either, because I can handle Texas Chainsaw Massacre and they were off kilter for no apparent reason. Perhaps it was just that everything was over the top - the violence, the language, the nudity – all of it gratuitous and most of it unnecessary. Really. And I must tell you that I sat astounded when people were cheering them on when "something" happens to the Sheriff at the end. Astounded.

There were two things that I appreciated in this movie; the shout outs to classic horror films and the actors we don't see much of getting a shot on the screen. Okay 3 things, Mother Firefly. She was so out there, that I couldn't help but laugh.

If I were you, I wouldn't waste my time on this mess, and can I please take a moment to tell you that if you take your young children to see this movie, you are committing an act of child abuse. I warned a mother of the 6-year-old two rows in front of me about the content of this movie. The violence, the sexual situations, the language, the nudity – all of it and she let him watch it anyway. That woman is raising a future criminal. Some adults shouldn't even see this one, let alone children.
