Ocean State Grand National Karate Tournament

Did you ever watch a Bruce Lee movie and wish you could kick, spin and fight like a martial arts legend? Maybe you can’t throw a punch to save your life, but coming to town are men, women and children who you wouldn’t want to meet in a dark alley. It’s the 25th annual Ocean State Grand National Karate Tournament, held on April 8th, 9th and 10th at the Crowne Plaza in Warwick and the Providence Convention Center. This is an international tournament where world-class martial artists will showcase their breathtaking skills and compete for cash prizes and trophies. Mr. Chuck Norris, six-time undefeated World Professional MiddleWeight Karate Champion and well-known film and television actor, will be the special guest at the Tournament.

The Crowne Plaza is the venue for most of the Tournament. There will be weapons, fighting, forms and demo teams all competing for prestige and prizes.

The Nighttime Finals Extravaganza, on the evening of Saturday, April 9th at the Providence Convention Center, is an awe-inspiring evening of kicks, leaps, extreme weapons, power-packed forms, and plenty of thrills. With more than 5,000 spectators, competitors and officials expected, the Ocean State Grand National Karate Championships will continue to be one of the most successful Karate tournaments in the country.

Grandmaster Don Rodrigues and his wife, Sensei Christine Bannon-Rodrigues, owners of the Don Rodrigues Karate Academy in Warwick, produce and direct the Ocean State Grand National Karate Tournament. For more information call 401-737-0125.
